Politically motivated or not, Kibera residents should have acted rationally

Kibera, a place of all odds in Kenyan politics. This place has been known since the establishment of multiparty politics as the centre of politics whether good or bad.

But my focus today is basically on the circumstances and aftermath of the chaotic scenes witnessed recently following spate of demonstrations in favour of Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru and another grouping opposed to her will to help the informal settlement be at par with other estates.

As Much as we can have political difference as voters, it’s barbaric to destroy the very efforts done by the government to uplift our standards.

I remember, the most talked about Kipipiri incident where electricity poles were allegedly taken back after the constituents failed to deliver votes for the ruling party; there hope of getting electricity going down the drain in a whisk.

But here is a government that has made it clear that their agenda is to alleviate human suffering and make it better.

Burning a facility that is meant to serve you directly is indescribable; it’s indiscernible and simply beyond comprehension. How can one be so cheap so as to destroy their basic commodity?. The essence of the reformed National Youth Service was to facilitate establishment of various projects that could help transform the society.

And maybe one of the considerations the government put in mind when choosing NYS is the availability of the team. Therefore, only capital incentives would be required.

It does not escape the minds of the sober Kenyans that the Kibera incident could have been politically motivated. People can’t wake up to burn a facility just without a cause, especially considering the fact that the residents were given first priority. But why destroy the hand that feeds you, the government has done its part. It never costs a dime to complement the government's effort.

The opposition chiefs who have now and again used Kibera as a ground for political wrestling and supremacy should start reigning on their supporters; it doesn’t add value to suffer generation after generation just because you have rigid ideologies that don’t seem to align itself to the dynamics of the changing world politics.

I wish to urge the people of Kibera, you have done a very abominable disservice to your destiny. While the government starved other areas of the resources to help you, you have chosen to close your eyes. But you have the opportunity to redeem your footing and work towards making your future bright.
