Appeal for security during Ramadhan

Muslim leaders have appealed to both the national and county governments to heighten security during the month of Ramadhan.

Speaking to The Standard yesterday, Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya Secretary General Uhadi Majid said Muslims need security assurance so as to observe the holy month without fear.

“We call upon the two governments to be more vigilant in protecting our lives and property especially during our night prayers,” said Mr Majid.

Majid also said the Muslim community was working closely with the county government in drafting proposals aimed at curbing terrorism and ending radicalisation among the youth.

Alluding to a recent workshop in Thika attended by Imams from Central region, Majid said they would soon start a series of anti-radicalisation seminars throughout the county.

Zaina Abdalla urged other parents to closely monitor their children and ensure they adhered to the non-violent teachings of the Koran.

Muslims from Majengo, Karatina, Ruringu and Mweiga are expected to converge in their respective mosques as they observe Ramadhan, the month during which Muslims observe fasting from dawn till dusk.
