Assembly issues arrest warrants for 2 executives

A county assembly committee probing illegal foreign trips of two executives want the duo arrested.

The two are being probed over the Israel and Italy trips that cost taxpayers millions of shillings.

The MCAs said County Executive for Environment Salah Yakub and his trade counterpart Idriss Muktar have been invited several times to shed light on the matter but they have ignored.

Speaking to the press on Sunday at the Assembly, the committee chairman Mohamedweli Guhad said the committee has resolved to invoke section 27 of the Powers and Privileges Act which empowers the House to force them appear.

Mr Guhad said they established from the county secretary that the two made unofficial separate trips thereby misappropriating public funds.

"The confirmation from the county secretary that the trips were illegal informed the formation of the ad hoc committee.

"We summoned the two but they have declined to respond forcing us to issue arrest warrants. The constitution empowers us to do that," he said.

However, contacted for comments Mr Muktar dismissed the committee allegations as a lie, while Mr Yakub remained non-committal.
