The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko will today announce which action will be taken on the graft files containing allegations against top State officers, forwarded to him by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

This comes as the clock ticks for the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to conclude investigations into graft allegations levelled against top public officials. EACC says it has so far forwarded 25 files to the DPP's technical team for action.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had directed on March 26 that investigations be completed within 60 days, and EACC has less than three weeks to wind up them up.

Fight corruption

President Kenyatta forwarded a total of 175 names to the National Assembly and the Senate during his second State of the Nation address, during which he promised to fight corruption.

Of the 25, seven have been forwarded to the DPP Keriako Tobiko for decision making.

EACC CEO Halakhe Waqo said among the names in the seven files, are City Hall officials who were charged on April 17. He said they are planning to summon more officials for questioning.

"The commission urges those to be summoned in the next few days to fully cooperate. Suspects are again reminded to shun political supporters while attending interviews at EACC offices," said Waqo in a statement. He said they would forward more files to the DPP in the coming days.

Before leaving office, suspended EACC Chairman Mumo Matemu said they were to charge officials involved in the National Social Security Fund's Tassia Project, Immigration department and Kenya Airport Authority's (KAA) Greenfield project.

Matemu said they had also finished investigations into four Judiciary cases and nine new Anglo Leasing files on the National Early Warning and Safety System. He said three files on the KAA project were ready for prosecution.

The Cabinet secretaries mentioned in the report, namely Kazungu Kambi (Labour), Felix Koskei (Agriculture), Michael Kamau (Transport), Davis Chirchir (Energy) and Charity Ngilu (Land), and principal secretaries have already been questioned.
