Kindergarten teacher sues Governor Jackson Mandago over child neglect

ELDORET: An Early Childhood Development (ECDE) teacher in Uasin Gishu County has sued Governor Jackson Mandago over neglect of their 14-year-old child.

Caroline Jesang Maina moved to the Eldoret Law courts, alleging that the governor had refused to honour his promise of giving her a nice residence and provide for the child.

The matter has been filed in the children's court where the minor, allegedly sired by the governor, will be represented by his mother Miss Jesang.

In the sworn affidavit, it is highlighted that Governor Mandago (the accused), stayed with the complainant from 1998 to 2002 and in 2001 begot the son who is the subject of the matter.

Through her counsel Mr Dennis Magare, the mother filed an application seeking the court's intervention to have the accused provide for the child after failing to honour promises he had made.

Eldoret Law Court Principal magistrate Mary Njagi approved the application and certified the matter as urgent and slated the hearing of the case for February 23, 2015 at the same court.

The affidavit further alleges that Mandago chased the mother away from the matrimonial home in August 2002 and left the minor a destitute.

According to the complainant, the governor had promised to provide shelter by purchasing her a house in the luxurious Elgon view estate valued at Sh9 million, but he reneged.

The applicant said she earns a meagre Sh8, 000 per month and therefore cannot sustain the child.
