Mike Sonko tables proof of graft against Evans Kidero

Nairobi, Kenya: Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko yesterday tabled before Nairobi County Assembly,  corruption evidence against Governor Evans Kidero.

Armed with audio and hard copy documents, Sonko walked into the Assembly moments before the House opening session started.

"Mr Speaker Sir, I wish to table some audio clips and unfortunately it will not go down well with some people who will lose some confidence in me but for the sake of development of Nairobi County, allow me to table them," he said.

The evidence ranging from alleged corruption committed from April 2013 to date is said to have cost the taxpayer more than Sh200 million.

Sonko told the House the county's tendering process was flawed, since most of the major tenders were being awarded to a former Mumias Sugar Company director.

He claimed that Kidero's family lawyer Fred Ojienda was serving as the County Government's counsel, a move he termed as 'conflict of interest.'

On the issue of the controversial garbage collection in Karen area, Sonko claimed the governor awarded it to a former business development manager at the sugar company. Sonko told the House that the county Chief of Staff George Wainaina Njogu is also a beneficiary of tenders.

He shocked the assembly when he said he received for three months Sh400,000 on a weekly basis from a county government administrator, for him to remain silent.

"I thought it was a condolence from the Governor's office for losing my uncle, only to realise it was a bribe," he said.
