Ewaso Nyiro South River Basin Development Authority plans to spend Sh500 million in the construction of 118 water pans and dams in Narok County.
The authority's Managing Director Charles Sunkuli Monday said 68 water pans and dams have already been constructed.
The pans and dams, he added, are being constructed in the arid areas of the county with minimal annual rainfall. "We plan to use the money in providing water in all parts of the county. On completion, water shortage will be a thing of the past. Locals will no longer walk long distances to look for the commodity," said Mr Sunkuli.
Speaking during the celebration of the authority's ISO certification, he said the basin that covers Narok, Nakuru, Nyandarua and Kajiado counties is also constructing a leather tannery factory at Ewaso Ngiro, Narok South at a cost of Sh350 million.
The factory, which is near completion, will process 4,000 tonnes of leather a year.
