Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi has asserted that recruitment of highly qualified candidates into the teaching profession will ensure delivery of quality education.

"Initial teacher education should impart the skills needed to teach learners of differing capabilities as well as lay the foundation for ongoing training," said Kaimenyi.

The CS made the remarks during the World Education Forum (2015) at Central Hall, Westminster, London in England.

The Forum provided a unique opportunity for Ministers for Education, together with senior advisors to discuss ideas on national and international policies and strategies on education.

Kaimenyi said the Government was strengthening its oversight institutions through Education, Standards and Quality Assurance Council and Commission for University Education (CUE), while providing continuous teacher development.

He said the State was institutionalising the Child Friendly Schools concept countrywide to provide a favourable learning environment for learners and teaching and learning materials through free education.

"However, the State's efforts faced challenges like teacher preparedness, inadequate supervision and the perennial issue of industrial action by teachers," he said.
