Nyeri, Kenya: All learning institutions in Tharaka Nithi have been asked to give reports on their land to the National Land Commission (NLC) to enable them get title deeds.
Speaking at Kathwana during the swearing-in of Tharaka Nithi County Land Board, NLC Chairman Muhammad Swazuri said the schools had up to March to furnish his office with the reports.
Dr Swazuri said many schools had lost their land to grabbers, hindering expansion of the institutions. He said all learning institutions must have title deeds and called on schools whose land has been grabbed to notify the commission to facilitate repossession.
Meanwhile, Tharaka Nithi Governor Samwel Mbae Ragwa has said land disputes had greatly contributed to food insecurity and slow development in the area.
"Tharaka Nithi continues to experience high poverty levels because residents have not been able to utilise this factor of production," Ragwa said.
