Over 3,000 elders representing Lkuroro age set have vowed to continue with Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) among the Samburu community.

The group which converged yesterday to discuss road banditry and other social aspects in Kisima in Samburu Central, expressed anger over anti-FGM laws enacted in 2011 and vowed not to obey them.

“Circumcision of young girls will continue in Samburu because it is a very important cultural practice,” group chair Ole Nkurikuru said.

They were joined by nominated Senator Naisula Lesuuda and area woman representative Maison Leshoomo, who steered clear of the issue when they addressed the forum and even when we pressed them to comment.
