Nairobi; Kenya: To many phone manufacturing firms, one of the more popular selling points is how thin devices can be and as a result, many of them are chasing the ‘world’s thinnest phone’ title. A Chinese firm, Vivo, is intending to break the record of the thinnest smartphone with their new device, a record that is currently held by the Gionee Elife S5.1 (5.1mm). The new device is being reported to be only 3.8 mm thick (0.14 inches). To put that in perspective, it is nearly half the thickness of the iPhone 5S. A device of such exceptional thinness raises a number of questions about its durability and battery. With the present technology, it is possible to come up with such a thin handset and still ensure good durability courtesy of lithium-aluminium, a material that is as strong as stainless steel. The smartphone’s battery on the other hand is still on probation because with current technology, it is not easy to come up with a high capacity battery for such a device.
