Women from various informal settlements in Nairobi stormed the Ministry of Health offices to protest poor sanitation in the city.

They want an inquiry established on the standards of sanitation in Mukuru slums.

The women, who live and work in Mukuru kwa Njenga and Mukuru kwa Reuben, yesterday argued the Government had neglected their plight, forcing residents to use plastic bags as toilets.

"We cannot answer the call of nature in privacy. The toilets built by Fresh Life Synergy are good but too expensive for most residents. It costs between Sh3 and Sh5 to use them," said Doris Moseti, a resident of Kwa Njenga.

The women said lack of proper sanitation had led to malaria, malnutrition and respiratory infections.
