A student of Moi University in Eldoret was arrested after he allegedly attempted to kidnap a three-year-old girl.
The fourth year student had allegedly demanded a Sh3 million ransom from the child's mother, Beatrice Musirya, who is a principal magistrate at the Kapsabet courts.
The suspect is alleged to have gone to the magistrate's Elgon View estate home and told the house help he was there to repair electronics and some failed power cables. He then attempted to kidnap the toddler.
"Thirty minutes after I had left the house, I received a text and when I called my house help, she did not pick up her phone. This prompted me to call a friend who was in town to go to my house and find out what was going on," Ms Musirya said.
An hour later, her friend called with the shocking news that the person was a kidnapper demanding Sh3 million.
"I immediately called the security man at the gate and the police as I drove back. They responded swiftly and arrested the culprit in the act," Musirya said.
Eldoret South OCPD Nicholas Maina confirmed the incident but could not divulge further details.
The alleged kidnapping comes only days after two other students from Egerton University were accused of attempting to kidnap a nine-year-old girl at Moi's Bridge in Uasin Gishu County.
It is alleged that the two first year students of the Njoro-based university abducted the girl as she was waiting for the school bus.
The students identified as Richard Gitamari, 22, and Victor Musango Mwania, 19, were reportedly planning to demand Sh5 million from the girl's family.
