NAIROBI, KENYA: The ban on the use of roof carriers on Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) still stands, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has clarified.
Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau said the ministry will together with the National Transport and Safety Authority continue enforcing the law to enhance safety on the roads.
Kamau termed as inaccurate media reports to the effect that Legal Notice 23 of 2014 regarding operation of PSVs has been annulled by the Courts. “Reports in the media are calculated to create confusion about the court’s judgment and should be ignored by the operators of public service vehicles and the public at large,” he said.
COMPLIANCE
Eng Kamau urged operators of public service vehicles and the travelling public to continue to comply with the rules introduced under legal Notice No.23 of 2014 as the court has upheld them as valid and in compliance with the law.
In a press release sent to the newsrooms, Kamau said the Court ruled against the provisions of the 2014 regulations which had banned the use of roof carriers on public service vehicles.
“The court’s ruling on this point is in line with the action already taken by the Cabinet Secretary to amend those particular provisions,” he said in a statement.
