It is ungodly to be lazy

We attend school so that we can secure a future for ourselves and our families.

Whether we branch into entrepreneurship or get a white collar job, the ordinary, normal person will find it necessary to wake up in the morning and engage is some activity that will provide his/ her basic needs.

The attitude some members of our society have towards work is worrying. The sanctity and seriousness behind work is absent.

There is the rush to earn quick money through whatever means. Then there are those who prefer to be leeches.

The Bible states that God worked for six days and rested on the seventh day. God is the number one worker, the primary worker, and He thus  legitimises work.

God Himself took man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to work  there and maintain it. Thus, whatever we can do with our hands, we should do it well because that pleases God.

We work for God and not just our employers. Ultimately, God will reward us, if not in this life, surely in the life to come.

Of course there are those amongst us who hate what they do to eke out a living. Those who can bolt and seek better jobs are encouraged to do so.

However, if we perform those jobs we do not like, we should still do our very best realising that whatever we do will be rewarded by the Lord.

Unfortunately, many of us think we are enriching the owner hence our lackadaisical attitude. Work has plenty of advantages. First, it is the means by which we provide for ourselves. It is in fact a sin not to work.

It is even worse when we sire children we cannot provide for.

Also, work will give you a social standing and people will always respect those who earn a living by working hard. Ideally, you need something to occupy you because idleness is discouraged in the good book.

I have seen the disabled work. I have seen a man with one hand pushing a cart so as to earn a living and pay his bills.

Why would an able-bodied person depend on another?Simply put, if you do not work, then do not eat. Furthermore, when you do not work, you are opening the door to poverty.
