Kilgoris man fined Sh500 for mutilating Sh50 note

NAROK COUNTY: A man was Monday charged in a Kilgoris court for destroying a Sh50 currency note that was in his possession.

Joshua Odhiambo was fined Sh500 after he was found guilty of mutilating Sh50 note that was in.

Odhiambo who appeared before the Kilgoris acting Resident Magistrate Amos Mokoros was also accused of failing to acquire a national identity card despite attaining the mandatory age of 18. He was released on a cash bail of Sh3, 000.

In a different court, another man charged with writing an offensive message on his Facebook page aimed tarnishing the name of the Trans Mara East Sub County Administrator Mercy Tembur.

Kiplangat Kirui who appeared before the area acting Senior Resident Magistrate Angelo Kithinji, was charged for posting in the social network, a message claiming that the administrator had pocketed Sh120, 000 given to her by the Narok Governor Samuel Tunai meant for two bereaved families in Kilgoris.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on Sh50, 000 bond and a surety of similar amount or a cash bail of Sh20, 000. The case will be heard on November 20.

Gabriel Mwita has been fined by the same court Sh50, 000 after he was convicted of cultivating bhang in half an acre farm at Enkopiriai area, Transmara West Sub County.

He had asked the court to be lenient to him since he had planted the crop to fend for his family, pledging not to commit the offence again.

And a Tanzanian national, Joseph Morotimba has been fined Sh70, 000 by the same court for possessing 70 litres of Kangara (a local brew) and another eight of Chang'aa.

He was also fined Sh20, 000 for being in the country illegally. The court directed that he be repatriated.

Moratimba who said he had stayed in the country for 19 years unsuccessfully pleaded with the court to let him stay in the country, promising to be a law abiding person.
