MOYALE, KENYA: Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has vowed to reject devolution of any educational department. The union has also warned county governments from employing early childhood teachers citing they have no mandate to carry out search exercise.
Addressing over 100 teachers in Moyale town last weekend, officials from Knut National Executive Council (NEC) said country education system has to remain under national government.
The officials have also said the planed devolution of early childhood department is unacceptable and warned of chaos in education sector if such attempt succeeds.
“Devolving country education system is a dangerous move and as union we are strongly against it,” Knut Assistant National Treasurer Richard Kibagendi told the teachers.
He pointed out that devolving education will divide national learning system. “We are telling the government that the country is together when education is together,” he said.
He added that the devolution of early childhood department is a plan to slowly devolve the entire education and therefore urged teachers to remain united and reject the plan.
