Teenage pregnancies alarming in Suna West, says area MP

SUNA, KENYA; Suna West MP Joseph Ndiege has decried the high rate of teenage pregnancies and early marriages among the school going girls in the constituency.

Ndiege said the current trend where a number of girls were abandoning their education to get married was posing a serious concern to leaders in the region.

"As leaders, we are keen to see that every girl who starts their Primary education gets to class eight. This is however not always the case as a number of them drop out to get married," he said.

The legislator said that he is dismayed with the rate of school drop-outs which he said will erode investment in the CDF kitty on funding education for girl child.

The legislator wants parents to be in charge to avert teen pregnancy cases in the area.

He was speaking at Sagero Mixed secondary school during a prize giving ceremony.
