MP lauds titles revocation, says CORD reaction suspect

A section of MPs from Western Kenya have lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta’s move to revoke title deeds belonging to 22 companies who own 500,000 acres of land in Lamu County.

Speaking after an ordination ceremony held at St Stephen’s ACK Church in Busia, Bumula legislator Boniface Otsyula asked CORD leaders not to protect Siaya Senator James Orengo who is being implicated for the land’s illegal allocation.

Otsyula said CORD leaders’ reaction towards the President’s directive is ‘suspect’ and aimed at diverting Kenyan’s attention from what is the real issue.

He said Orengo has a lot to explain to Kenyans on how such vast tracts of public land were allocated to private companies at a time when the Government had outlawed all transactions involving public land in the country.

“Let them not divert our attention. As a nation, we are waiting for an explanation from Orengo since he was the person in charge of the Lands docket when these illegalities occurred. CORD cannot appear to be protecting Orengo, let him be investigated and if found guilty, then he should face the full force of the law,” Otsyula said.
