University investment arm unveils its third restaurant

The University of Nairobi Enterprise Services (Unes), the investment arm of the University, has opened a new restaurant to cater for growing number of clients. Arziki Gardens to be located at Unes consultancy offices along State House Road, will increase the number of restaurants that Unes runs to three. It has also opened Unes consultancy block, which will house a consultancy wing.

The other two are Arziki Restaurants Chiromo and Main Campus established in 2007 and 2008 respectively. The Chiromo restaurant also has conference facilities. The Chiromo Conference Centre can accommodate up to 70 participants with the Unes executive boardroom able to hold executive conferences of up to 40 people.

New outlet

Unes Managing Director Prof Julius Ogeng’o (pictured) says since its inception, Arziki has served thousands of people daily, maintaining top customer service and quality. He said the hospitality unit has continued to make its products available through expansion in capacity and now through set-up of a new outlet.

The latest outlet is expected to serve patrons around State House Road and its environs -- a market not adequately served. Arziki Gardens will also do office deliveries as an added value to adequately serve its customers.

Apart from hospitality, Unes’ business portfolio also include financial management of academic revenue, mainly comprising fees paid by self-sponsored students, consultancy, and bookstores.

It also provides financial management services to nine income generating units in the University. These  include Chiromo Funeral Parlour, Diagnostic Imaging, Dental Plaza, Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library, Clinical Studies, Veterinary Farm, Clinical Chemistry, Haematology and Immunology.

Unes is big in consultancy using the resources of the University such lecturers to carryout consultancy services under 20 thematic areas such as arts and design and social sciences. Others are in construction and engineering, agriculture, medicine and training.

In February this year, University of Nairobi Enterprise Services was awarded a Sh30 million contract to map out infrastructure lines and lease plots at the Konza Technopolis. Unes is marking the entire 5,000 acres, which will clearly indicate which institutions and infrastructure such as roads are placed where.
