MPs faulted for snubbing Uhuru’s Nyamira function

Kenya: Nyamira Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which their leaders presented the county’s interests to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The MCAs also faulted the decision by a section of MPs to skip the Head of State’s visit. Nyamira senator Mong’are Okong’o, Kitutu Masaba MP, Timothy Bosire, his North Mugirango counterpart, Charles Geni and Woman Rep Alice Chae snubbed the President’s function held at Nyansiongo.

But East Africa Legislative Assembly MP Joseph Kiangoi, Borabu MP Ben Momanyi and his West Mugirango counterpart Dr James Gesami attended the function.

During Wednesday’s session, the President’s visit dominated with Bogichora ward MCA Beauttah Omanga saying it was shameful that Kisii County leaders led by Governor James Ongwae and Senator Chris Obure stole the show, even within Nyamira’s territory.

Poor organisation

Nominated MCA Naomi Ondieki said the Nyamira senator had let the county down by failing to attend the function.

They claimed Nyamira leaders were humiliated due to poor organisation.

Mrs Caren Atuya of Bokeira ward criticised Nyamira CORD leaders who failed to attend the function. She said it gave their Kisii counterparts leeway to request for and get more goodies.

During the debate, Robert Ongwano of Township ward declared he had defected from ODM to TNA, a remark that nearly cost him the seat.

“I have decided to move from ODM to TNA,” he declared but Speaker Joash Nyamoko warned the declaration would cost him the seat. Ongwano had to apologise and withdraw the statement.
