A Junior Administration Police officer who acted on Tuesday as Baringo governor Benjamin Cheboi’s Aide-De-Camp has been demoted and transferred.

The officer who stood behind Cheboi as he addressed the County Assembly has been relieved of his duties as security detail of the governor and transferred after he breached the Force Standing Order (FSO) and National Police Service Act 2011.

He was demoted from the position of a Sergeant to a Corporal.

While confirming the developments, Braingo County AP Commandant Elisha Odhiambo told The Standard that he summoned the officer at his office before transferring him to Baringo North sub-county AP office within the county.

“It is not a secret. The officer standing behind the governor generated reactions from different quarters, and he admitted innocence and to avoid public ridicule and embarrassment, we transferred him to a different station,” said Odhiambo.

He said that the Governor has been assigned another officer whom he said will be fully acquainted with the Act to avoid committing the same mistake as his predecessor.

Mr Odhiambo said the officer was still in the service but will no longer offer his services to the Governor adding that the transfer will save his ‘face’ before public saying he acted on ignorance.

County transition authority chairman Kinuthia Wamwangi said the AP went overboard in his action insisting that certain characteristics of a national Government does not exists at the County level.
