Divisions have emerged among politicians in Kisii and Nyamira counties over President Uhuru Kenyatta’s scheduled visit to the region.

A section of the politicians have been quoted threatening to boycott the President’s trip, claiming they have not been involved in its preparations.

Nyamira Senator Mong’are Okong’o, MPs Charles Geni (North Mugirango), James Gesami (West Mugirango) and Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba) have hinted they would boycott the President’s function unless their grievances are addressed.

The politicians spoke during a fund-raiser attended by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka at Kiabonyoru High School in Borabu constituency last Friday.

The Standard has learnt that only Borabu MP Ben Momanyi will attend the leaders’ meeting to be held at Menyenya High School today.

Nyamira County Assembly’s Leader of Majority Beauttah Omanga said they were ready for the President’s visit. “President Uhuru does not need the permission of anybody to meet the people of Nyamira. We do not support the MPs’ position that Nyamira leaders should skip the President’s visit,” said Omanga.
