Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba has urged youth to fight for their empowerment by taking advantage of revolving funds that have been made available by the Government.
Speaking in Lugulu, Bungoma County, yesterday during a meeting with Webuye East Youth Sacco members, Mr Namwamba cautioned them against accepting handouts from politicians to cause problems in rallies and fight for their selfish interests.
“Our mission as leaders is to empower the youth and liberate them from the mind-set of independence and help them unleash their potential. I believe empowerment will enable them to be occupied in development projects,’’ he said.
Namwamba said youth empowerment was a nation-wide initiative and asked leaders to embrace it.
“We want the politics of development and unity where we can all work together. We cannot be politicking every day and leave this future generation idle. They must be mentored and encouraged to be development-minded,’’ he added.
LACK OF FUNDS
Brian Mutembeyi, a businessman who accompanied the legislator, said they have met youth groups in Meru, Mombasa, Busia and Kipkelyo who intend to run various projects and sponsored their aspirations in an effort to create employment and empower them.
Simon Nabukwesi, a former Kenya Ambassador to Canada who hosted Namwamba, said many youth have the ideas but they are incapacitated due to lack of funds to run their projects.
