County signs pact with EACC to fight corruption

NYAMIRA, KENYA: The county government of Nyamira has signed a pact with Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to implement a 15-point action plan.

EACC regional manager Charles Rasugu said the plan is geared towards prevention and fight against corruption.

He pointed out that Kisii and Nyamira counties were among the places where members of public readily give bribes to government officials to gain favours, adding that the behaviour makes war against corruption difficult to win.

Speaking in Nyamira after the end of a week-long public sensitisation forum, Rasugu urged residents to desist from acts of corruption and to report cases to the commission.

Deputy Governor Amos Nyaribo and County Legal Officer Eric Omariba signed the deal at Nyamira’s Uhuru Gardens on behalf of the county government while EACC’s legal officer David Too, who represented anti-graft boss Mumo Matemu signed on behalf of the commission.

A county corruption prevention committee would be set up as part of the agreement.
