Several houses demolished in Executive estate, South B

Nairobi, Kenya: Property was Wednesday Morning destroyed as bulldozers pulled down houses at the disputed Executive Phase 2 estate in South B, Nairobi.

The process was halted after Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko arrived at the scene where at least 25 houses had been demolished.

Ministry of Agriculture CS Felix Koskei who also arrived at the scene suspended the demolition exercise following a directive from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Koskei advised those affected to institute legal proceedings but added that the exercise would still take place.

“As you have witnessed this morning, we have started the repossession process and this shall continue relentlessly. I also advise the affected occupants to institute legal proceedings against the persons who sold to them the land which was illegally allocated,” said Koskei.

The estate is among several others in South B that are earmarked for demolition for being put up on a road reserve.

Several residential houses in Nairobi have been demolished in the recent past among them homes in Syokimau area and other informal settlements in the city.
