Mombasa, Kenya: Police have uncovered a cartel that allegedly manufactures counterfeit goods and illicit alcohol in Mishoromi area in Kisauni, Mombasa.

One person was arrested Monday evening after police received information from the public of the illegal business that was being carried out at a rental house in Kadongo in Mishomoroni.

Police are reportedly trailing a woman suspected to be the owner of the business that supplies the goods to unsuspecting consumers in Mombasa.

Police added that they netted more than 100 liters of fake Jik bleach and industrial detergents powder in Toss containers, stickers and counterfoils which had the Kenya Bureau of Standard (Kebs) standardization mark.

They also recovered hundreds of alcohol bottles during the afternoon swoop.

“The operation was mounted after we received information that there were some people who were manufacturing fake products and selling it to unsuspecting consumers in the County,” Kisauni OCPD, Richard Ngatia said.

The discovery comes barely a week another raid in an unlicensed brewery in Mombasa where more than ten thousands litres of illicit brew was impounded.
