Baringo residents receive more relief food

Baringo, Kenya: Hunger-stricken residents of Baringo East received 300 bags of maize, 150 bags of beans, 35 cartons of cooking oil and 10 bales of nutropap from the Government as part of the ongoing relief interventions to address the effects of drought in various parts of the country.

Devolution Principal Secretary John Konchella distributed the food at Chemolingot trading centre of Nginyang Division in the vast and rugged county that has suffered perennial food shortages due to poor rains.

Mr Konchella assured the residents that the Government would increase relief allocations to all areas that are experiencing acute food shortages, saying that the Government will not allow any Kenyan to die of hunger.  

He urged county commissioners to monitor the drought situation closely and promptly inform his ministry for immediate relief interventions.

“There should be no delays in informing the National Government when relief supplies are running out in affected areas so that prompt replenishments can be done before situations get out of hand,” he said.

Konchellah said that the National Government would continue to provide relief food to affected regions while the county governments will ensure the food reaches the most affected people in their areas of jurisdiction.
