Sh4.5 million class project in Pokot school

The Safaricom Foundation has put up buildings worth Sh4.5 million in Kaptemow Primary School West Pokot County.

Previously, the more than 450 pupils in the remote school, about 68km north of Kapenguria town and sandwiched in a valley bounded by rocky hills used to take their classes under trees and a single mud walled structure.

Vagaries of the weather were a great challenge for the pupils, compromising their education.

Safaricom Foundation Chairman Joseph Ogutu said the Sh4.5 million had been used in the construction of four classrooms including an administration block and purchase of 100 desks for the pupils.

He observed that the donation would create a favourable learning environment for the pupils:  “The future of our children depends on us, hence the need to invest heavily in their education. ,” noted Mr Ogutu.

During the handing over of the facilities also attended by the speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi and Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto yesterday, girl pupils in the school received sanitary towel gifts from well wishers.
