NAIROBI, KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta will Monday lead a delegation from Kenya to Abuja, Nigeria for a three-day state visit.
The delegation comprising of diplomats and businessmen will among other things discuss how Kenya and Nigeria can collaboration on oil exploration according to statement from Gina Din-Kariuki who is part of the Nigeria/Kenya trade mission.
The joint Nigeria/Kenya trade mission is made up of a committee of ten prominent business men led by Equity Bank CEO, James Mwangi, the Chairman of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce, Kiprono Kittony and Gina Din-Kariuki who represents CAMAC Energy Inc., a US-based oil and gas exploration, development and production company.
"We are excited about the opportunities that can come out of a visit by President Kenyatta to Nigeria. We believe Kenyan businesses offer particular skill sets to Nigeria particularly in the service industry and likewise we are looking forward to them sharing their wisdom in the Oil and Gas sector by helping us with training and capacity building in this sector which is just taking its baby steps,” said Gina Din ahead of the trip.
Our manufacturing sectors are extremely excited at pursuing opportunities in the continent’s largest economy with a very large and fast growing middle class. We are confident that the visit will be productive and partnerships will be formed that will further enhance the foundation set by our two Presidents,” she added.
Nigerians have in the recent past shown interest in not only Kenya but the entire East Africa in a number of areas including agriculture, horticulture and banking related services.
The visit to Abuja comes on the back of a similar mission from Nigeria to Kenya in September 2013 by President Goodluck Johnathan who led a powerful delegation of business people to Kenya.
