Nairobi, Kenya: Three suspected criminals were killed in separate robbery incidents in Nairobi.

Two were shot dead in Komarock and one along Ngong Road, police said.

The two who were killed in Komarock were part of a five-man gang that was robbing residents, according to police.

The others escaped on foot in the Wednesday 9pm incident. Nairobi police boss Benson Kibue said the gangsters had stolen a number of valuables from pedestrians.

Along Ngong Road, a gang had attacked a pedestrian yesterday morning and shot in the air to scare her, in the processing alerting police officers on patrol. The officers shot dead one man while his accomplices escaped on foot.

On the rise

“Some of the attackers managed to escape but sporting wounds. We recovered a laptop, mobile phones, a pistol called Eko with three bullets and other valuables,” said Kibue.

He said the woman had alighted from a matatu near St Annes when she was attacked.

Armed robberies have been on the rise in the city.

Up to ten suspects have been killed by police and the public in Nairobi in the past week alone.

Elsewhere, seven people were Wednesday arrested in connection with illegal production of brew in Githogoro slums, near Runda in Nairobi, where police seized more than 4,000 litres.

The brews include 3,200 litres of busaa and more than 800 litres of chang’aa. Police say the seizure was conducted after investigations showed the area was the main source of the drink.

The suspects are expected in court tomorrow.

Gigiri police boss Vitalis Otieno said the alcohol was brewing inside special drums buried underground when they staged the operation this afternoon.

“The area has been as a major source of illicit brew in Westlands and adjacent areas,” said Otieno.
