Kisii, Kenya: Nyamira County government is set to establish a monitoring and evaluation directorate to audit the implementation of development projects.

Speaking to The Standard yesterday, Governor John Nyagarama blamed the area assembly for delaying the plans for the setting up of the monitoring unit.

“Several months ago we wrote to the assembly seeking approval for creation of the new office, but sadly nothing has been done. The assembly needs to move with speed to enable us move forward. We intend to start the recruitment process for the office holders,” said Nyagarama.

CHIEF OFFICER

He said a monitoring and evaluation unit, to be referred to as a Results Office, would be headed by a chief officer. The officer is expected to report directly to the governor.

“We have started a number of development projects and without an effective monitoring and evaluation department, there is likelihood county executives will easily collude with unscrupulous contractors to do shoddy works. The people of Nyamira must get value for money,” said Nyagarama.
