Busia, Kenya: Heavy rains over the weekend blew roofs off two classrooms and the administration block at Amagoro Primary School in Teso North.
Addressing the press at the school, Simon Emeje, the head teacher appealed for assistance to rebuild the rooms. Mr Emeje said the affected buildings were, in the first place, set up by funds from donations. Retired President Daniel Arap Moi donated Sh500, 000 for the construction of the two classrooms after his meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni at the school’s premises in 1996.
The 18-year-old Administration block and the library were built with donations from missionary Bill O’Reilly in the same year.
Emeje said it was unfortunate that the buildings had been destroyed.
“This loss amounts to over Sh2 million and parents cannot afford to repair due to the high poverty level. I call upon well-wishers to intervene and help rebuild the destroyed roofs,” the school head added.
Busia County Education and Vocational Training Chief Officer Joel Barua, who visited the scene Saturday, regretted that the County government was now prone to such like challenges.
