Laikipia, Kenya: A Laikipia West businessman has confessed before a High court judge that he stabbed and killed a secondary school female teacher after suspecting that she was having an affair with a student.
While pleading guilty to a lenient sentence of man slaughter, David Kariuki said the 26-year-old teacher had confessed to him that she had a secret love affair with another man.
Phyllis Nyawira Muthee of Olmoran Day Secondary school was stabbed to death by her lover after a row. The businessman is said to have sent a short text message to the teacher’s sister informing her of the tragic incident.
Justice Anyara Emukule warned him twice on the consequences of pleading guilty but the accused maintain his stand.
“Now you are 22 years-old and if this court will find you guilty of committing the offence, you will not see the sun for the rest of your life, this should ring severally in your mind before you take any step,”, Emukule reminded the accused.
According to the prosecution, the accused confronted the deceased after she failed to report to work on allegations that she was feeling unwell.
During the confrontation, the court heard that the teacher picked a kitchen knife and threatened to stab the accused but was over powered and killed.
The accused insisted the incident occurred out of provocation and he could not contain himself after stabbing her using the same knife.
“She had early informed me about the presence of another man in our relationship, I could not believe that my wife was seeing another man,” he told the court.
He pleaded for a lenient sentencing claiming he was ready to compensate the deceased relatives and take care of a baby boy the woman left behind.
However, David Kihara, a relative to the deceased, told the court that the accused was not married to their daughter and that the boy was not his son.
The ruling was set for June 13.
