Two truck drivers found siphoning fuel arrested

Nyandarua, Kenya: Police have arrested two truck drivers allegedly found siphoning diesel from vehicles hired to repair rural roads in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County.

The two were arrested near Machinery trading centre at a private farm where they had parked the trucks ostensibly to “milk” diesel from them.

According to Kipipiri OCPD Murkomen Chebet, the drivers were found with four gallons of diesel and several other empty containers and that it was not immediately established where they intended to sell the fuel.

“We were alerted by the members of the public who spotted the truck drivers committing the crime and that is when we moved in and arrested them,” he said.

They are being held at Kipipiri police station awaiting to be taken to court.

Nyandarua County Government had earlier sounded alarm over cases of siphoning of fuel by drivers with the Governor Daniel Waithaka issuing a stern warning.

Kipipiri MCA Michael Kirumba condemned the incident saying it was shame that people hired to provide services to the local community were engaging themselves in corrupt and criminal deals at the expense of the tax payers.
