Shock as village wakes up to girl devoured by dogs

A two-year-old girl was attacked and devoured by rabid dogs in Kilifi County.          

Distraught parents told The Standard Wednesday that the child was killed by dogs from a private farm when she strayed into the place at night without her mother’s knowledge.

Reports show that her father, Mwampa Ndimba, a butcher at a neighbouring poultry farm, had gone out to slaughter chicken at midnight of Tuesday. But unknown to him and his wife, the girl followed him.

Mwampa only discovered his daughter had been killed by dogs at 4.00am after stumbling on body parts as he returned to the house.

The incident took place at a remote village of Shariani.

 Reports from Shariani quoting Mwampa say the girl was eaten by his employer’s dogs after she walked out at night.

“It appears the girl woke up and followed me from behind before she was attacked by the dogs,” he was quoted saying.

The grief stricken father said he left his house at midnight and closed the door from behind before he went to the poultry farm for his daily routine of slaughtering chicken ready for the market in the morning.

  Mwampa said he stumbled on the canines when he got out to refuel the electric generator. They were fighting over something and on further scrutiny, he realised they were sharing his daughter.

He told The Standard that he was shocked to see the dogs sitting on his daughter’s body.

Bahari OCPD, Justin Nyaga confirmed the incident saying investigations have been launched into the matter.

Mr Nyaga said police officers were informed of the sad incident before they moved to the farm and took the body to Kilifi County Hospital mortuary.

 “It is true a girl aged about two and a half years was attacked and killed by dogs at a poultry farm in Shariani area, we are investigating the issue,” Nyaga said yesterday.
