The politician first came into limelight in 2002 when he won the Tigania East Parliamentary seat on a Safina party ticket.

As an MP, the Meru-born politician founded and chaired Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association, with the aim of championing in Parliament issues affecting the youth.

He was appointed to Government in 2006 as Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Internal Security and Provincial Administration

The politician traces his political acumen to Meru High School, where he was chairman of the debating club.

At the University of Nairobi where he studied law, Munya was twice elected chair of the Kenya Law Students Society.
