Kisii, Kenya: Kisii County residents have been asked to use solar energy to save over Sh3 billion spent annually on paraffin for domestic use.

Syein Rene, a solar energy expert and director of Rural Development Solutions, said the huge amount could be used in other areas if residents embrace solar energy for lighting up their homes.

Speaking during a solar street lighting sensitisation programme in a Kisii hotel, Mr Rene said continued use of tin lamps pose huge health risks to users. He noted that solar energy was a perfect alternative to the skyrocketing cost of fuel.
