Nyandarua, Kenya: The Nyandarua County assembly has summoned the County Public Service Board after uproar over job recruitment.

The committee on Delegated County Legislations Chairman Wahome Kamoche said the five-member board is set to be grilled on how they settled for people not qualified to serve as chief officers.

Mr Kamoche, also MCA for Rurii ward, said the names forwarded to the assembly did not meet the merit and wondered how the persons got the jobs.

He cited the names of officers who qualified to serve as the legal affairs chief officer and chief officer for health as having degrees in education.

“How then do you expect people who have served in different fields to be competent in a work that they have not done before? We have demanded an explanation from the board and that is why the committee has summoned them,” he said.

Kamoche said it was wrong for people to be picked from sectors that they had no knowledge in.

“This is a serious matter. A chief officer is the accounting person in that department and that is why we need experts from the relevant fields,” Kamoche said.

He blamed the board of not consulting and that’s why they had pre-qualified the wrong people.
