Narok, Kenya: A man in his mid 30s is cooling his feet at a police station in Narok County after he falsely reported that his motorbike was stolen by a man who turned out to have been an innocent buyer.
The man who had previously left his home county to look for greener pastures in Narok lied to the police and asked them to help him recover the item.
A source said after surveying his new business destination, he went back to his home and managed to convince one of his relatives to lend him a motorbike to start a transport business.
The owner of the motorbike agreed, on condition that they would share the proceeds. The two signed an agreement that he was to be sending the owner of the machine, via M-pesa, Sh300 as the daily hiring fee.
But the man brought the motorbike and sold it at Sh30, 000 to an unsuspecting buyer. The buyer was able to pay Sh20,000 and promised to pay the balance of Sh10, 000 later.
When the first owner of the motorbike failed to get the hiring charges, he demanded back his property.
The man then went to the person who bought the motorbike and informed him that he wanted to break the sale agreement since he had changed his mind.
The other partner refused to part with the motorbike and that prompted the man to report the matter to the police but in a different version.
“He reported that the motorbike had been hired to the buyer but he had not only refused to pay the hiring fee but had also refused to hand back the motorbike to him,’’ the source added.
The buyer was arrested on the account that he unlawfully retained someone’s property. But police officers were surprised when the suspect produced a sales agreement. The officers smelt a rat and set out to further question the man who had brought the case before them.
The man was asked to furnish the police with the log book of the motorbike and when he failed to do so, he was put in for further questioning.
