Evans Kidero says standoff between senators, governors can only hurt Kenyans

By Maureen Abwao

Nairobi, Kenya: Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has asked senators to refrain from passing Bills aiming to reduce powers of county bosses.

Speaking Sunday during a thanksgiving service at Pentecostal Assemblies of God Church in Bahati, Nairobi, Dr Kidero said such moves would affect mwananchi negatively.

“I would like to call out to the members of the Senate to restrain from making such decisions as the funds are meant to oversee development projects at the county level, which mwananchi largely depends on,” said Kidero.

He also called on all governors to take stern measures on those county employees who are involved in the misappropriation of funds.

“Governors should not allow their names to be dragged through the mud by corrupt employees at the county since they are the ones who employ them and so have a right to fire them,” said Kidero.

Jubilee mole

The governor called on those elected to stop politicking and instead embark on delivering pre-election promises.

At the same time, Kidero said governors, if needed to appear before the Senate committee to answer to the expenditure of funds in their counties, would do so.

And, former Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa defended Kidero over claims he is a Jubilee mole.

“We should allow the governor to undertake his duties with the Jubilee government and stop spreading propaganda that Kidero is a mole,” said Aladwa. “Those who feel they are not ready to be part of ODM should step down instead of tarnishing the party’s name.”
