Baringo, Kenya: Members of Baringo County assembly have called for fast-tracking of car grants and housing mortgage to minimize unnecessary daily travels after five members were injured in an accident while going home.
The five MCAs were injured after being involved in a head-on collision with a vehicle belonging to Standard Group. The county assembly members argued that the grant would enable them buy comfortable cars so as to avoid overloading by members which result into accidents, adding that lack of housing forces them to travel daily for several kilometres.
Assembly members however blamed overloading, overworking of drivers and lack of clear transportation structures, calling for employment of expert professional drivers and regular maintenance of assembly vehicles.
Recently, the assembly members approved Sh150Million house mortgages for themselves.
