NAIROBI, KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta has said the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project will go on as planned.
Addressing the nation from State House Nairobi Tuesday afternoon, Uhuru added that the government remains steadfast in its quest to deliver Kenyans from economic bondage.
The president dismissed those questioning the deal to have a Chinese company construct the Standard Gauge Railway and insisted that due diligence was followed to the best of his knowledge.
“If anyone has information and evidence based on facts to the contrary, they should present it to Parliament,” the President said.
Uhuru enumerated the benefits of having the SGR in place saying it will cut cost of transportation, reduce damage to road networks, create jobs and facilitate achieving the Vision 2030.
“My interest is to see the railway built in a cost effective manner and on time so that it can deliver fruits to all Kenyans”, said the President.
The president also said his government will shun anybody who would challenge the project without facts.
“If we want to make achievements, we must shun arrogant attacks on the progress we wish to make,” Uhuru said.
