Nairobi, Kenya: A customer was shocked to learn that she had been served a Sh8,500-a-tot whisky at a five-star hotel in Nairobi.

The customer, identified only as Jane, arrived at the Sarova Panafric Hotel on Wednesday evening accompanied by her colleagues and ordered a double tot of her favourite drink.

However, the waitress informed the client that the brand was not available and what they had in store instead was King George V whisky, which is the most superior of all, and asked her to sample it.

Jane then ordered a double tot while her colleagues ordered five cups of tea.

The bill

After finishing their discussions, they asked for the bill, which stood at Sh36,518. One of the clients offered to clear the bill and gave Sh4,000, having mistaken it to read Sh3,651.

However, the waitress informed them that the money was not sufficient, prompting an exchange as the clients claimed they had been overcharged.

“I feel cheated by this hotel if the bill was that huge,” Jane protested even as she produced her card to clear the bill.

Sarova Panafric Hotel General Manager Anthony Ngunga said the attendant had informed the client that the whisky was expensive due to its superiority, adding that in any case, their price was cheap compared to other five-star hotels.
