Trans Nzoia, Kenya: Heavy security has been deployed to the controversial Chepchoina settlement scheme in Trans-Nzoia County as tension heightened over the alleged allocation of land to some Ugandans.
Consequently, the Government has banned night meetings by politicians allegedly meant to incite communities against each other.
Trans-Nzoia County Commander Lillian Okembo said over 100 officers including some from the General Service Unit have been deployed to guard the area. The deployment comes in the wake of growing tension after Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto claimed that several Ugandans had been resettled in the scheme.
Moroto alleged that a senior politician in Trans-Nzoia had influenced the resettlement of the Ugandans. The MP claimed that the politician aided the Ugandans to secure Kenya identification cards by purporting to be Sabaots.
Mrs Okembo said the officers would provide 24-hour security to farmers in the scheme and parts of Kwanza and Endebess constituencies.
