KENYA: Kenyans will have the opportunity to offer their views on the reconstruction of the Westgate Shopping Mall. During the five-day public hearing set to begin from next Monday at Charter Hall, stakeholders and the public will give views on what needs to be done for rapid restoration of the facility that was destroyed during a terror attack last year.
During a visit to the mall yesterday, the vice chairman of the committee spearheading the exercise, Wahome Muchiri, explained that the team has been making extensive consultations on rebuilding of the mall to help it make recommendations on the way forward.
“Those wishing to appear before the committee are to register on or before Sunday, January 19,” he said.
The 16-member team, led by Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero, is tasked to plan for the revival of business at facility, identifying affected businesses and their recovery needs as well as negotiate for goodwill payment for businesses that did not have the terrorism cover.
