MOMBASA, KENYA: Three suspected livestock rustlers made a daring move and stormed into Kilifi G.K Prisons compound and attempted to steal a total of 43 goats.

The incident took place at around 1 p.m on Wednesday night when the suspected rustlers got access to the 24-hour guarded prison compound and attempted to steal the animals.

Kilifi OCPD Mr Justin Nyaga confirmed the incident saying the suspects failed in their attempt after the prison warder on duty learnt of their move and shot in the air.

Mr. Nyaga said the rustlers got access to the prison compounds which has many openings and went direct to the where the livestock were and made away with 43 goats.

The police boss said a prison warder on duty at that night discovered the move by the suspected rustlers to steal the animals and blew a whistle to alert his colleagues.

He said when the others warders came for reinforcement, they shot in the air several times something which scared the thieves.

He said the thieves abandoned the animals a few meters away from the prison grounds.

“The thugs numbering about three got access to the compound on Wednesday night and attempted to steal the animals,” said Mr Nyaga.

Residents living near the G.K prison compound at Kiwandani said they had several gun shots in the night but they could not immediately establish what was going on.

Some of the residents said they counted at least 13 gun shots which took place at the prison ground at that night something which scared them.
