Homa Bay, Kenya: Cloud of grief engulfed Rodi Kopany Township in Homa Bay District after a Tanzanian man murdered a widow he inherited in the area.
The Tanzanian, who was only identified as Steve and is aged between 40 and 50 years, is alleged to have stabbed to death Beatrice Atieno Anyach, 40, at her home on Saturday morning.
The widow’s body was found Saturday midmorning with several stab wounds on her abdomen.
Her neighbours were surprised that the widow’s door that is normally opened very early was still closed with no padlock from the outside.
The neighbours went to the door called her name but were surprised by the silence which prevailed from inside.
Efforts to have the door opened proved futile, a situation which forced them to break in, only to find the body lying on the floor with her intestines out. The incident took place in the absence of the late widow’s six children.
The suspect is alleged to have escaped immediately after committing the heinous act. He also took the deceased’s phone.
Area residents said the two were seen in a bar on Friday evening, just a few hours before the incident.
The Tanzanian had stayed with the widow for less than a year.
Homa Bay OCPD Francis Kumut said they are looking for the man suspected to have escaped after allegedly committing the act.
“Our Investigations have revealed that the suspect is travelling back to Tanzania through Kenhancha. We shall continue with the investigations to have him arrested,” Kumut said.
