Fifteen prisoners who sat last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) at Narok GK Prison were yesterday feted for their achievements.
The inmates, who registered mean mark of 259, were feted in a ceremony which was attended by all inmates and wardens in the facility yesterday.
Victor Koech, who was the top scorer in the facility with 347 marks, asked their colleagues to follow in their footsteps.
“Though incarcerated, we can do something to change our lives. There are many inmates who can further their studies but reading materials and classrooms are standing in their way,” he said.
Koech said he intends to continue with his education and asked the Government to set aside slots for them in provincial schools.
Another inmate, Boniface Too, who got 321 marks thanked the wardens and inmates for assisting them to prepare for the exams.
The candidates, according to the results, did well in Kiswahili where they got a mini-score of (61 percent), Social Studies (54 per cent), English (53.2 per cent) and Mathematics (48.3 per cent).
