KIAMBU, KENYA: A Jubilee Senator has hit at fellow legislators who are condemning President Uhuru Kenyatta over his recent appointments of Parastatal heads.

Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi said some leaders especially those without government are trying to incite and negatively tilt Kenyans mind, a move he cautioned could cause unnecessary unrest.

The lawmaker was reacting to remarks by his Kakamega counterpart Bonny Khalwale and other leaders who have accused President Uhuru of appointing aged people, inclined on ethnicity and corruption track.

Khalwale had said former head of public service Francis Muthaura was too old and that he worked in a corruption riddled government as a top official

He said the reasons for his appointment is to facilitate illegal deals in the lucrative tenders that will be awarded in the project.

“Leaders want to incite our people that they will not be served equally and tune their minds to believe that they should expect corruption in government projects which we all know is not true and healthy for national development,” he said.

The Kiambu senator said such utterances from elected leaders would cause unrest in the country and asked leaders to observe sobriety while dealing with development issues.

He defended the President over his appointment of Mr Muthaura as the chair of The Lamu Port Southern Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor project that saw Professor Shaukat Abdulrazak degazzeted causing uproar among the coast leaders.

Wamatangi said the President had good reasons to degazzete Abdulrazak and have Muthaura, saying it is his prerogative to appoint people he believes will drive and see his manifestos delivered.
